RESIDENTIE KANAALZICHT

NL Residentie Kanaalzicht transformeert een vergeten stukje parking op de Anco-site te Turnhout tot een kwaliteitsvolle meergezinswoning met zicht op het kanaal. De plint van het gebouw wordt actief ingevuld met een kantoorfunctie.

Het gebouw is erg gevoelig voor zijn context. Impakt op naburige percelen wordt door een slim spel van vormen geminimaliseerd. Het gebouw keert zich actief naar de straat toe en verbetert zo de kwaliteit van de publieke ruimte.

De expressiviteit van het gebouw werk op verschillende schalen. De sculpturale vorm maakt een sterk gebaar vanop grotere afstand. Wanneer men nader komt, zal het gebouw steeds meer van zijn detail prijsgeven. Op de kleinste schaal valt het fijn uitgewerkte metselwerkpatroon op. De schil gedraagt zich als een mantel op maat van het gebouw.

EN On this site are a lot of restrictive conditions. The building volume is carefully shaped respecting the privacy and light requirements of the neighbors to the back and adding a lively facade to the street side. On one side the building stands directly on the plot boundary and takes lights and views on the adjacent private plot. The realization of the building was only possible after careful discussions with the owners of the adjacent properties.

The building is designed on different scales. On the largest scale one finds a strong volume that standsproudly without being dominant. The windows and openings are harmoniously positioned in the volume. On the smallest scale the building is designed to the measurements of its building material: the brick. The pattern of the brick is wrapped around the building as a well-tailored coat. The pattern repeats every 5 layers. Changes in the façade surface are positioned always in regard to the patterns of the brickwork.
